Here at Enhance Cosmetic Clinic, we use a range of dermal fillers that are made from hyaluronic acid(HA) - a natural occurring sugar molecule that’s found in our skin.

HA has the incredible ability of holding one thousand times its weight in water. Hello hydration!

The size of the HA molecule determines how viscose or thick the product is. There are loads of HA products on the market that can treat a range of issues like volume loss and hydration. So, it’s crucial you receive advice from a practitioner who knows which product to use, where to place it and WHY!

WHY USE HYALURONIC ACID ?

Traditionally, collagen (sourced from bovine) was used (and still is used in some countries) as a permanent filler. Lot’s of studies revealed that collagen wasn’t actually that good for us and that you could get better results with HA.. so HA became the preferred dermal filler. HA is great because it can be reversed in case of a vascular occlusion, if the filler has been placed poorly and caused migration or if the patient doesn’t like it.

WHAT BRANDS DO YOU USE?

I use Restylane and Teoxane.

ARE THERE ANY CONTRAINDICATIONS WITH FILLER?

Yes, the following patients cannot have filler

Pregnant and breastfeeding women
Patients with a known allergy to HA
Patients with active cold sores or facial wounds

If you do suffer from cold sores, and you intend on having filler injected in the peri oral area, please consult with your GP to see if they can prescribe you with anti viral medication as a prophylaxis.

HOW IS FILLER REVERSED/DISSOLVED?

Hyaluronidase (Hyalase) is an enzyme that metabolises/breaks down filler. In the case of an emergency, (vascular occlusion or anaphylaxis), or if a patient needs the filler dissolved, we have Hyalase and other emergency medications & protocols to use in clinic.
